None of his posts survived the day.

I saw two of them. There was another one that I missed.

Alas, the little power that a board moderator has is real in the space they moderate. Ruleless speech looks a lot like Yahoo. So many voices that what you have is a cacophony and not a conversation. Chiselling value from the lump of opinion is a process that is necessary if you aim to provide a medium which isn't defined by the loudest voices or the lowest common denominator.

Civility is a form of collective restraint. Where folks choose not to be civil and the moderator is forced to act, it is usually a matter of regret rather than of the willful assertion of arbitrary power.

This is not a comment upon doma's posts but upon his philosophy. I don't pretend that this is a space in which anything goes. Opinion is almost always fine. Ad hominem responses less so.

I'm sure this holds for the moderators on iHub WAVX as well. The conversation has edges. I find my posts are sometimes deleted in that space. It's the way they choose to run things. Posting in a moderated space, you accept that you write under a set of rules which are adjudicated by someone else. That's just the way it is. Unless you are the moderator.
