snapits, oxygen is what causes a fire to burn. If you have a fire and you add oxygen to it, you increase the flamable part's ability to burn. I once watched a bottle of welding gas put out a fire because it used up all the oxygen. Then the oxygen bottle went off and the fire exploded and melted bricks. A fire without oxygen goes out. A fire with lots of oxygen gets very hot.
