President Barack Obama on Thursday hailed the death of Muammar Qadhafi as a "momentous day in the history of Libya."

"Today we can definitely say that the Qadhafi regime has come to an end," Obama said during brief remarks in the White House Rose Garden. "One of the world's longest dictators is no more."

Obama also pledged that the U.S. will support Libya as its people embrace democracy.
