McDonnell to join Obama in Hampton Wednesday

President Obama's bus tour, which began today in Asheville, N.C., will stop Wednesday in Chesterfield.

Gov. Bob McDonnell will join President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama for their veterans-focused event on Wednesday at Joint Base Langley-Eustis in Hampton.
“The governor welcomes the president to Virginia; The commonwealth is always honored to host the commander-in-chief,” McDonnell spokesman Tucker Martin said in an e-mail announcing the appearance.
Wednesday’s event is focused on “the importance of hiring American veterans” and Michelle Obama is expected to announce a major private sector commitment to hire veterans and military spouses.
“The governor looks forward to it. As a veteran, and as the son and father of veterans, he is always interested in new ideas about how to get more of our veterans back to work in this tough economy,” Martin said. “The governor has set a goal of making Virginia ‘The Most Veteran Friendly State in America’ and he is interested in hearing the president’s thoughts on this important issue.
Virginia’s first lady, Maureen McDonnell, will join the governor at the event. She has made supporting military families one of her chief objectives.
McDonnell had previously asked Obama to join him in Louisa County to view damage from the Aug. 23 5.8-magnitude earthquake. The president declined, through FEMA chief Craig Fugate.
