Hi 4321,
Thanks. Nice post.
No question that we both hope you are right!
And by the way, I don't really get offended by much online and I wasn't really offended by your post - there are folks I don't enjoy reading but you are not one of them. I was more disappointed, as I felt it was a productive but incomplete conversation. I didn't think I'd quite got you to see the world through my eyes. And with this reply of yours, I think we are there. I don't need you to agree with me!! Not at all. I just suggest maybe you keep your eyes open for this kind of thing.
In fact, I strongly encourage you to continue with pursuing your theory with awk. It's a very thorough and impressive hypothesis, which only needs confirmation in the adoption cycle. I'll doubtless weigh in from time to time in my usual irreverent way. But there's nothing more for me to explain about my perspective on this particular subject.
By way of explaining myself in a general way, it does get awful tiring when you are one person with an alternative theory and there are several people posting back at you. I tend to get a bit short when folks go round the same loop - same as you expressed in your circle jerk post. It sometimes seems I am posting endlessly and repetitively, when in fact I am kinda forced by the circumstances to answer the same things more than once. Because someone has joined in half way through, or whatever. And sometimes it seems like one or another of the people involved is just arguing their stock ownership. In this case, I started out having a chat with just you. Others joined in. Before you know it, it dominates the board. Not my plan - or my idea of fun.
My obstacles posts are offered to help explain the dangled and extended timelines. I am not a great fan of Wave's carrot and stick approach - I find it insulting, actually - and you should believe me that the carrotene approach is something we are used to in these parts! Wave will never tell us why things elude the company for so long. So I kinda have to rough it, using my instincts and a small array of facts to deduce what is really going on. I know I will often be wrong. But personally I think there's nothing worse than the kind of hope which is always just out of reach. I'd rather try to smash a fake reality than feel manipulated and misled. There's a truth some place to be had. And I'm going to try to have it if I can.
To be fair to Wave - I think they have always suggested the telecom space is a slow burn opportunity over the years. I'd much rather know that we're looking at a long term investment, than keep being disappointed quarter after quarter. So I have little to complain about from Wave in this instance.
But in terms of your hypothesis - if it survives my wrecking ball, it tells me that you have a robust architecture in place.
The goal - the grand vision - is one part of the story. I don't think that has changed so much for the last decade. But you guys do a great job making the detail clear, explaining how it may happen, these things. We're all indebted to you on that score.
