The Homestead Act gave Americans title to rural land once they'd inhabited it for 5 years. But it also gave them the right to buy the land for $1.50 an acre after just 6 months.
So, instead 2 acres of land, I propose we give your welfare recipients $3.00. That way, they can buy land of their choosing instead of being saddled with these inferior lots in Maine and New Hampshire.
