...the .45 / shotgun / 30.06 will be great for the first few days after the collapse. After that the .22 will be the best choice. A man with a high powered rifle who knows how to hunt deer can survive six months. A man who has a .22 and knows how to cook a rat will survive indefinitely.

re: A .45 for the bedroom, A shotgun over the door,
A 30.06 for distance, You don't need any more.
I think you will disagree with this one DE LOL"

Right you are. I think the most practical guns long-term may be my .22 rifles. After all, I've gone out during hunting season and seen how quickly the deer become scarce. But vermin? They're ALWAYS around. There won't soon be a shortage of rabbits, squirrels, raccoons, possums and the like. But shoot them with a 30-06 and you aren't going to have much left to eat!

I once heard of a guy who shot a rabbit with a 30-06. When he went to pick it up, he was able to find the head. That was about it!

I'll keep my numerous .22s. When shooting small critters at a distance, they're the way to go. Cheap ammunition, a reasonable slug for anything under five pounds, and not terribly inaccurate. I'm also a big believe in EXCESS guns - something North failed to mention. They're needed both for redundancy and for barter. I can't think of anything that there'd be a bigger long-term demand for - except, perhaps, for ammunition.
