...ah ha, your right. You suggested it was an error, not an accident. It wasn't an error either. He did it on purpose and he knew it was a fabrication when he did it. It was neither an accident or an error.

I personally believe that Rather was taken in by the fraud, but he had an obligation to thoroughly investigate the material before broadcasting. For that, and for his over-eagerness to nail the Texas Deserter, he deserved to be fired.
