The problem occurred when Americans permitted a crazy philosophy of unregulated greed to take over Washington DC. You are talking about the symptoms rather than the disease.
Amazingly, having ruined themselves and the world with their ideas, Americans look like they are susceptible to another go - blaming the people who are trying to fix the problem for the problem itself.
I'm afraid I think there is nothing so destructive to the whole world than the zealot billionaires of the Republican right. They are the disease - the wasp that lays its eggs in the caterpillar of docile middle America and consumes it while keeping its vital organs ticking as long as possible.
The cure is a change in the constitution. Otherwise, it's a repeat cycle every 40-60 years or so. Kondratieff was onto something.
