do other (big) companies earn the pittance on their cash in their balance sheet similar to IDCC. If so, this would be less than 1%, correct?

or do they have some magic bullet that grabs them 3+%

if someone like intel spends has 5 bil sitting there and does earn 1% (or 50 mil for those math challenged), would it not be the famous wall street saying
"accretive to earnings" to acquire idcc?
