Hi tkc,
On the pc side, I'm thinking this time (ie no caveats).
I do think there's a decent possibility of traction in the telco markets. But it isn't as if the adoption cycle is mature. I worked out the existence of competing influences and the telco obstruction ages ago. So I'm revisiting old thoughts and bringing them up to date.
It amazes me that so few people consider what I call the politics of the market. The trust matrix is such an easy dream to have, but it's a destination. It was a fun thing to imagine and/or discern a long time ago. But after that comes reality.
The journey involves the building of architecture and the gathering up of opportunities on the one hand and the navigation of obstacles on the other. Long bloody process. It frustrates me when people consider the left or the right hand but not both of them. Or they say - forget that left-hand crap. Just believe that there will be no problems at all.
That's simply naive.
And with mobile, I see the same damn thing happening again. People want the glorious vision. They don't want reality's clouds, winds and rain.
Now is it possible that, say, the DoD makes an order for ERAS-managed phones in 2012. Absolutely. But maybe not such a high probability. Why not simply think grandiose thoughts where the issues have already been ground down over the years in the PC space and fow which the opportunity is bloody huge on its own. Let the cell phone market be the next stage of development without hyping the timeline.
