Perry drains funds from schools to offer oil companies $62.8 million.
Just what we don't need, more dumbing down of Americans.

...there is nothing in your post that supports your allegation.

...we are spending more on "education" than countries doing much better than we are. The problem isn't money. The problem is the NEA and the inability to get rid of teachers who cannot teach, some of whom do not even know the subject they are supposed to be teaching. Education in America has become a jobs program for minorities.

Texas School Ratings 2011

Tougher Standards Increased Unacceptable Schools

AUSTIN, Texas - The Texas Education Commissioner on Friday released this year's school ratings.

The complete results, released by Commissioner Robert Scott, can be found here: ritter.tea.state.tx.us/perfreport/account/2011/index.html

THE FINDINGS IN BRIEF

Texas school ratings plummeted under tough new standards imposed by the Texas Education Agency.

The number of unacceptable school rose from 104 to 569. Exemplary schools fell from 2,637 to 1,224.

Education Commissioner Robert Scott released the 2011 results Friday afternoon saying the lower scores reflect tougher standards. The agency eliminated a controversial calculation called the Texas Performance Measure that critics say allowed schools to count failing students as passing.

The ratings are based on how students score on standardized tests, graduation rates and drop-out rates. Schools are placed into one of four categories: exemplary, recognized, academically acceptable and unacceptable.

Schools that perform badly over several years can be shut down if they don't meet the state's standards. Parents may also request transfers for their children out of unacceptable schools.
