It is my opinion that never in Apple's history have they needed a company as bad as they need IDCC right now, to help secure their wireless supremacy. It is true that Apple can find many factories to produce their products and maintain their high quality standards in the process. However, it is my opinion, that the only way a company with their innovative breakthrough ability can continue to do so is to have IDCC's engineers working on a full time basis developing wirelesses future generations and applying them in a useful format. IDCC was on the ground floor for the beginning of wireless technology and they will be involved in all future generations for wireless devices. In my opinion, Interdigital's engineers have proven that they have this ability.
Apple knows this and can not afford not to have control of the pace in which it is accomplished and to use IDCC to exert that control.
IDCC has always had the brain power to develop the patents. What they have lacked in selling of the technology and being paid for its use would be a non-issue with Apple's ownership.
Apple would wield IDCC's technology like a surgeons scalpel both defensively and offensively. I honestly do not believe that any of us can even imagine what the two companies would accomplish over the next 20 years.
Apple has already proven that they are the leader in wirelesses innovative products. By purchasing IDCC they will insure their supremacy in the technology itself in the further development of 4G/LTE, M2M and Video Compression and other groundbreaking wireless technology.
If Apple does buy IDCC, there will be no limit to what they will be able to accomplish and those other companies will have to constantly be reminded that they should have bid higher.
What the final buyout price will be is not known to any of us, nor would I even venture a guess. I do, however believe it will occur.
