Well, his Thompson came in real handy one time when he was clearing out the second floor of an old German farmhouse. He kicked open a door and there were 10 German soldiers, who, after their initial surprise, quickly went for their weapons to take him out. My uncle liked the Thompson because he said, if you put it on your hip, pointed it left, and pulled the trigger, it would it draw a smooth, straight line from left to right. This is exactly what he did standing in that doorway. After the smoke cleared, he saw all 10 Germans on their knees with their hands on their bowed heads. There was a nice, straight line of .45 ACP bullet holes in the wall behind them, just above their heads. Needless to say, the fight went out of those Germans, real quick.
