...yep, you are correct, but if you have someone coming at you with a knife or similar weapon, it is best to shoot and keep on shooting until they are on the ground and not moving.

Double-tapping is always prudent, but any solid body shot with a .45 will do 3 to 4 times the damage caused by a similarly placed .380.
