I would hardly call Mitt's upbringing as being "middle class" considering his father, George W. Romney, was CEO of an American automobile company, then Governor of Michigan and finally even tried running for President (but was tripped-up by a minor detail: he was born in Mexico of parents who had renounced their American citizenship).
As for my middle-class status, my father was a high-school dropout who worked his whole life in blue-collar jobs, first as a truck driver and then as a heavy equipment operator finally retiring as a regional foreman with the Michigan DNR (Department of Natural Resources). My mother was a bookkeeper. I paid for may own college education and has been fully employed ever since. And according to many people, if you go by annual salary, and if $250K is the arbitrary upper limit for a couple and still be considered 'middle-class' then I guess I still AM. However, if it's having less than a million dollars net worth, well then I guess I'm NOT.
BTW, using the above salary/net worth criteria, where does that place YOU?
