You forget that I recently discovered (thank you, OCU) that I too abhore the death penalty!
The death penalty is like getting a tooth pulled. Not pretty, but sometimes the only solution. It is a detriment to crime.
If ya eliminate the death penalty the penalty for kidnapping is the same as the penalty for murder. Why not just kill the hostage?
If ya eliminate the death penalty and a cop is chasing a perp who is running from being arrested for his "third" felony, why not just kill the cop?
If ya have a serial killer and ya don't know who and where all his victims are, one he has been convicted of one murder, what do you trade for his cooperation in other cases?
If a perp is doing life in prison without parole, why not kill a guard or another prisoner?
