No, I do NOT know if his conviction was just.
Many others don't either.
Executing a person when there is so much doubt is wrong.

Changing the punishment would not cause better verdicts. In fact, I imagine jurors would be a little MORE inclined to convict if the death penalty wasn't a possible outcome of their verdict.
