I am opposed to the Palestinian effort at the United Nations because I think that it is going to get them nowhere. This is not the time for romantic gestures. This is the time for them to do something that will actually help them get a Palestinian state - a goal that I support....

Well, what you have written here may be just the reason the Middle East boil continues to fester.

It's the chain we all know. US domestic politics conflicts with international wants. The US is perceived by everyone to be complicit in the Palestinian tragedy. In turn, this enrages other members of the umma, who cannot influence what happens in their own neighbourhood. Powerless people with a grievance, no outlet and who see no prospect of progress by legitimate means find a way to communicate violently.
