By the time of the 2008 election, polls had already decided that Virginia would go for Obama.

What, then, would the point have been in voting for someone I despised, McCain? It wouldn't have changed the result. I wrote in the candidate who I actually supported.

In doing so, I improved the results for my candidate and made him a stronger candidate four years later.

So my vote wasn't passive at all.
