Today's SA article ("InterDigital: Waiting Is The Hardest Part") references a whopping 17 ticker symbols:

AAPL, ACTG, ERIC, GOOG, HTCXF.PK, INTC, MMI, MSFT, NOK, QCOM, RIMM, RMBS, RPXC, SSNLF.PK, TSRA, VHC, WILN

The author's intentions appear rather transparent.

Nukejohn posted a month ago that Seekingalpha has a program where authors can get paid based on the number of page views. (link to his post: http://bit.ly/py51cl )

That would make sense to me why so many of the SA articles reference several stocks, so they can have the most number of eyeballs. Instead of just writing about IDCC, a number of authors like to throw out EK, VHC, etc. -- so that those shareholders will also be interested in the article. Even if the reference is minor.

Because they get paid, at least sometimes.
