I hardly think that punishing successful small businesses is the way to revive a failed Presidency, but Obummer's numbers are SO bad that he's apparently reached the desperation stage.

This isn't the way to improve things. The economic decline will continue and sharpen.

More than a year out from the 2012 election, Barack Obama has hit the campaign trail, rushing from state to state before cheering partisan crowds in garlanded arenas as if the presidential poll was next week.

With a $447bn jobs plan on the line, he is using the trip to press the Republican-controlled Congress to pass legislation to add additional stimulus to an economy on the brink of falling back into recession.

But more than that, Mr Obama is trying to both resuscitate and reset a presidency that is being swallowed in a maelstrom of dire economic, business, political and personnel news he has been unable to arrest.

Mr Obama’s authority has been battered by a relentless Republican party that smells blood, symbolised by the loss of a once-safe Democratic seat in a by-election in New York on Monday, and rising dissatisfaction within his own ranks.

Hanging over the US is the instability in Europe, which threatens to the global economy no matter what initiatives Mr Obama can push through on the home front.
