Dogmatism is appealing to electorates in times of extremity, who wish to believe there are easy solutions.
I will be curious and rather sad to see what happens if the US chooses a future for itself that goes along that road. The end of science and society. The return to individualism, ignorance and brutality. The Darwinism of the German officer class in World War 1, administered by a God without compassion for the weak. Let the poor die if they cannot afford health insurance.
Popularity is a mirror. It shows us our collective dreams. What does Perry show us about how the US views itself and what it hopes for in the future? A return to the simplicities of a rural, constitutional past seen through a glass darkly?
