ribit, I tried to explain to AT&T folks at the top that many old folks will not get cell phones but would if the cell phone number was the same as the home phone number. Never could get them to consider it. BTW, when I was working private-line services, I did that for a business customer so that his cell phone and business phone worked together. That was back in the 1980's.

...I had AT&T cellphone service. The closest tower is less than a mile. The next closest is about a mile and a half. If the weather was pretty I could get a signal if I went outdoors. If it was cloudy no signal at all. Reported it several times. Was told, "You should have a signal there" as if it were somehow my fault that the signal wasn't there or that perhaps I was lying about it.
Now I got Verizon. Hey AT&T, CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW!!!
