OCU,

re: 'Then explain why all the GOP Presidential wannabes have been suggesting that we need to lower the federal minimum wage, which has virtually no effect on "government workers"?'

They believe that employees are a commodity, like any other commodity, and that businesses have every right to hire at the best price the market will bear. If they pay too little, other businesses will steal the better employees.

My turn: Why do YOU believe employees should be paid more than the market determines that they're worth?? Charity at the point of government's gun?

Minimum wage abolitionists also argue that the minimum wage, mandatory benefits, and other regulations harm small businesses that would like to hire or expand their workforce but cannot afford to pay whatever the government mandates. They're right, of course.
