I also worked summers and for the university.

In 5 years, the only help I got from my parents was that they drove my clothes and stuff up to school my freshman year (I drove my motorcycle), gave me $30 a month that first year (the only year I didn't have a job while in school). Other then that, every dime it cost me was covered by scholarship (and yes, it was a competitive scholarship, but I would have lost it if my father's salary had exceeded a certain limit while I was in school), loans or the money I earned working summers, for the school and from my work as a freelance photographer.

...but, when you finished high school, I presume you could read and write and that you actually earned the scholarship instead of being given a "preference" in order to satisfy some artificial and arbitrary goals.

...as far as the student loans go, that's the first thing I would eliminate. People who work a part time or full time job and go to college at the same time don't have time to protest and raise hell. The ones going to college on someone else's dime generally are a waste of skin and air not to mention a seat in the classroom.
