Jobs package - which if early reports are correct, looks about 1/5 the size it needs to be to make a big difference - will be dead on arrival due to Republican dogmas. But I'd be overjoyed to see Obama fight for it. At least then the forthcoming election will have meaning.

The British example of austerity economics. Not going well. Simon Jenkins hopes for a change. But it won't happen for a good while. The British conservatives (who unlike US conservatives aren't crazy) believe they are fighting the problems of the early 1980s and the excesses of New Labour economics. But this is a liquidity trap. The timing is wrong.
