What kind of a society do we live in where politicians go out of their way to pass laws telling an entire class of manufactures that they are exempt from a business practice that any manufacturing company would need to adhere to in order to satisfy their investors and owners?

Can you imagine what it would be like if GE or Pratt & Whitney didn't have to track the spare parts that they sold to the airlines to maintain their engines? Or if prosthetic implant manufactures didn't have to keep track of which hip replacement went into which patient?

And if that isn't outrageous enough, from the same government which has ruled that tracking the sale of firearms is not important we may soon have a law which requires the tracking of all breast implants since there's a chance that improperly manufactured ones could harm a patient, even to the point where their life was at risk. But then I've never seen a bumper sticker claiming that 'Breast Implants don't kill people; People kill people'.

Report finds manufacturers 'lost' more than 16,000 guns over two years
By Jordy Yager - 09/03/11 12:13 PM ET

More than 16,000 guns were “lost” from gun manufacturers’ inventories over the last two years, according to a report by a gun control advocacy group.

The report, released by the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence, pulled data from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) and found that 16,485 guns left the inventories of nearly 4,500 licensed gun manufacturers throughout the country without a record of them ever being sold.

In 2004 Congress passed the Tiahrt amendment – named for its sponsor then-Rep. Todd Tiahrt (R-Kansas) – which prohibited the ATF from requiring gun manufacturers to track their inventory. The Brady Campaign has long advocated for a repeal of the Tiahrt amendment.
