The equivalent option volume today is way higher than the stock volume. I looked at four out-of-the-money strikes that I own and they trade a combined 3000 contracts. At 100 shares per contract that is equivalent to 3,000,000 shares and only about 1.5 million shares have traded so far. And, those only four strike prices. If the shorts are shorting today and then hedging, they must already be short a ton of shares.

As a non options player/trader, does todays trading mean that the shorts, while shorting the actual stock, are hedging their bets with options?
