Not trying to depress you 4321. Just think it is best to have feet planted on rock rather than shifting sand.

The flip side of the pessimistic story is this: Wave's deal with Dell and its gradual accretion of cash gives it more time in which to be what we all wish it to be.

Something may happen to light this candle. But the rate of progress is not overwhelmingly strong. And unless something significant happens reasonably soon, I can't see the company remaining independent. A larger company with a substantial customer base will - in the usual way - assume a small company with a viable next-generation product but no market access.

Sales NOW is the hope. But there's little sign of that in Wave's results.

Hi 4321,

Since I've been watching this company, there's always been a next step which is why the current product suite isn't selling. Or so SKS tells us, belatedly.

Another way of putting it: Wave has built a product which is contingent on an incomplete architecture. That excuse has gone on for a decade and more. But it is an excuse that he always offers after the fact.

Does this theory hold up?

I don't think so.

They have sold their product to BASF and GM in large numbers and many other companies in small numbers. They have hired a large sales force to sell it all over the US and Europe. This tends to suggest it is saleable, and saleable right now. So they believe the product is not waiting for some super-component. They believe it is ready for action.

But still, no deals. These other things are excuses to explain failure and to give a person hope that the next change will bring success. Believe me, this is the pattern of years and you are the next person in line thinking if just this piece is put in place, I'll reach the pot of gold. After hypervisors and the BIOS comes the mobile phone. And after that, maybe Linux. And then perhaps set top boxes. And then field programmability. Before this it was virtualisation and ERAS and SEDs and and Vista and TPM 1.2s and home networks etc.

One time, it may be so that we have reached the summit. But the process of thinking the peak is just over the next ridge is the usual practice of Wave-watching. What matters is when.

This man draws perfect circles. He is Giotto and not Georges Braques. I'm not sure he will ever be done. But he will always seem to be nearly there.
