Hi csl,

A few points:

1. Have you noticed that liberty and property are competing virtues? When you erect a fence you limit someone else's liberty. When you copy someone else's work you breach their information rights. So you seem to be tiptoeing past the contention those words entail.

2. You have entirely dispensed with the notion of public goods. You describe such activities as plundering. No freeways in csl's America? No community flu shots for those who cannot afford them (which means the virus travels to everyone)? No public charity, even when private charity fails - such as during recessions?

3. When you argue that government should get out of the way, I guess it shouldn't regulate bad behaviour such as Ponzi schemes. Caveat emptor. Such a world is a nice space for rogues to prosper, isn't it?

4. No problem for you with the abject poverty and starvation of a depression, I suppose?

I'm trying to get you to think outside your box, csl. You are a great lover of theory, which I respect. But you tend to quieten down some when your theory is taken down from the tower into the muck. How do you answer my 1 through 4?

Hi alea,

The previous administration shares responsibility as does the congress that was under the control of both parties at one time or another during those eight years.

Owning silver, or gold, will help assure survival when this whole fiat currency charade tumbles down into the Keynsian hole. (sorry about the whole-hole thing, couldn't help it)

Wealth is created by human effort applied to harvest the abundant resources of the earth to suit their needs. Government is necessary to protect the life, liberty and property of citizens, not to plunder the wealth created.

Government best promotes wealth creation by getting out of the way and allowing free people to make the productive use of their time and talent.

There is unlimited work that can be done and abundant goods that can be produced to improve the lives of all of us. Other than the limited role mentioned above government has no role in that process. The political class will of course disagree as it threatens their usurped power.

As far as I can tell I am in complete agreement with Ron Paul and supporting his campaign.
