The previous administration shares responsibility as does the congress that was under the control of both parties at one time or another during those eight years.
Owning silver, or gold, will help assure survival when this whole fiat currency charade tumbles down into the Keynsian hole. (sorry about the whole-hole thing, couldn't help it)
Wealth is created by human effort applied to harvest the abundant resources of the earth to suit their needs. Government is necessary to protect the life, liberty and property of citizens, not to plunder the wealth created.
Government best promotes wealth creation by getting out of the way and allowing free people to make the productive use of their time and talent.
There is unlimited work that can be done and abundant goods that can be produced to improve the lives of all of us. Other than the limited role mentioned above government has no role in that process. The political class will of course disagree as it threatens their usurped power.
As far as I can tell I am in complete agreement with Ron Paul and supporting his campaign.
