Hi Dreamer, no doubt we're in very precarious economic/political waters. The pendulum has always swung both ways. Whenever either Party has obtained excessive power it has taken advantage and promoted their agenda, often to an extreme. Then, finally voters opt for change. The past 3 yrs. has seen the filibuster become a nuke utilized by the minority to kill or dilute the intended purpose of the majority. This has never before been used as this minority has used it. That is indeed a game changer in the Senate.
Couple that w/ the House majority held hostage by a 1/3 minority of their own party and voila - gridlock at best. Principle over party, principle over the public welfare. Very troublesome, but the pendulum will swing.
Easily I see the argument from both sides. What is unfathomable is the total rigidity to compromise. And even worse, to me, is the paid pundits with obvious conflicts of interest "spinning" or outright lying to their relatively uninformed audience. Democracy requires an informed voter. We really no longer have that, if we ever did. I know so many people that are totally intractable and won't even consider casting a vote for a candidate not of their party, even when it would be in their own self interest if they were educated enough to realize it. So here we are.
I would love to see more centrists from both parties, more Independents. Ain't gonna happen for some time, hopefully someday. This next election cycle is going to be a blood fest in the "battle ground" states and districts. Deep pockets from the right and left, unions and business and of course special interests will pour in money. As in the past, in most cases, w/o intrenched encumbency, it will be the best candidate w/ the best "ground game" and organization that will be likely winners. Wish us luck, I can't afford an island, at least not yet.
