I was listening to Thom Hartmann on the radio, who now broadcasts his show from a studio in D.C., when the quake hit and while he had experienced some quakes when he lived for awhile in California, his in-studio guest was from England and she was really excited (you could almost hear the panic in her voice as she was asking whether it was safer to stay in the building or should they be trying to get outside). At the time of course, they had no idea how strong the quake was (in fact when the building first started to shake you could hear one of the producers suggest that perhaps a bomb had gone off, which I'm sure for someone living in D.C. that that would be a more likely scenario than an earthquake), but he did mention that the building continued to shake and rattle for close to minute and that one of the technicians had to hold onto a freestanding equipment rack which would have fallen over if he had not grabbed it when he did. They also said a laptop just skated across the desk as if it were on ice and landed on the floor, but they never went off the air and they said the lights in the studio never flickered.
