I have an internal cast iron wood burning stove.
I purchased after I divorced my husband in 1980.
Damn, a lumberjack was NOT included ;))

We do use is some, it has heatalaters & heats up the first floor & heat rises, though not to the bedroom on the far end of the house, mine ;)) clo

I'm not sure how much land you have, clo, but a friend of mine in NH has an external wood-burning furnace. He's able to dump pine, scrub, pretty much ANYTHING into it, and it keeps his extremely leaky old farmhouse nice and warm.

The drawback is that he goes through huge quantities of wood. I think he said about 25 cords a year.
