Decomp,

Life is fleeting. I hope everyone reading this is making the most of theirs.

My 43 yr old son, Paul had a major heart attack on Friday. He had two major blockages, they did angioplasty & he has a stint.
The first thing he wanted when they finished, a cigarette. They wanted to keep him for 5 days & to take a month off from work.
He was released today, he was stable enough & wanted to smoke.
He is also a diabetic with high blood pressure, on medicine.

Yesterday as I was feeling powerless I wrote him a letter. Starting with the joy of getting pregnant & feeling him grow inside of me. Reminding him of many memories we shared over the years & how much I love him & what a giving heart he has.

I reminded him how much he misses his dad, he died 2 years ago. And my sister died, she had been a smoker until the last 2 years.
I asked him to consider his two young daughters, he adores them. They deserve to have him in their lives for a long time.
And I don't want to bury my child.

I read this to him today, we both cried.
He plans on trying a laser treatment to the ear, his dad did this & it helped him quit.

He plans to go back to work in a week. He has to avoid climbing for 2 weeks, he's on a blood thinner & needs to take care or he could bleed out.
He's the operating engineer.
I suggested he write down his condition, meds, and phone numbers & keep this with him at all times, just in case.

The good news, Paul has a second chance. I pray he uses it to make the most of his.
It's in his hands.
