My guess is that Google will sell the manufacturing part to recoup. The Asians have an incentive to get together and replace Android if they don't. Might anyway.

I think (good or bad) Google wanted to be able to control the Android end-product or atleast saw that as a benefit. I think the business schools will be analyzing this current environment over the coming years and will determine that Google got too cute with the acquisition of Motorola...
