Hi CF, Hopefully you're correct re: Bachmann and Perry. Romney, as a Mormon, although much brighter and less extreme, won't get the Christian religious rights' hypocritically prejudiced,indoctrinated vote. He's drifted right to appeal to some wing nuts, but not getting enthusiasm. Jon Huntsman, although also a Mormon, might emerge as he is somewhat more centered. I suspect he'll garner significant support from party moderates - in particular the gay community and those that understand the reality of "global warming." He's got experience - former businessman, Governor and Diplomat. at this point, I think he's the GOP's only hope to defeat Pres. Obama.
I agree. To a great extent, we have set aside the problems of our planet as we focus on the problems of our race. The human one, that is.
Are these problems related? Possibly, at some levels.
I have some (but incomplete) confidence that the American people will not elect a buffoon as president. The long election cycle tends to reveal weaknesses. Perry's vanity, his poor intellect and his back-scratch relationship with Texan business are going to cause him difficulty. Bachmann is simply cuccoo. These things make them both poor choices and I cannot see them winning this game.
