clo, in the 'old days', a worker expected to do the same job for all his life. He showed up ten minutes early so that he was always on time. He took only the allotted break and lunch time. He tried to do a better job than his co-workers so that if a promotion came up, he might get it. Now workers show up about the start time and if they are late, they do not care. If they would rather do something else that day, they skip work. The employeer has to put up with most of it and the government tells them who to hire. Most workers could care less if they get laid off or are fired. It is no big deal to them. There is always unemployment and food stamps.
