Knowing the personality of this man, he would not have retired with Kodak scheduled to be final at the end of August. His retirement was unscheduled. The reasons are not available at his request.
IMO, Luckern did not go to the doctor on a Friday and retire on a Monday, but I could be wrong. I was thinking that some had known for a week or 2. I also think that 2 long time judges (Newman and Luckern) might even be friends or atleast hear through the grapevine what is going on. In any case, it does not really matter as I could be correct about the timing this week but wrong on my theory.
