China Mobile to replace 30% of equipment for network expansion

China Mobile will usher in a new round of large-scale of network expansion in the second half of this year to committed to creating a 2G, 3G, WLAN, 4G collaborative, ubiquitous, integrated, intelligent wireless city in Shanghai. The top priority is 2G network upgrade, consisting of network, platform and service.
"We hope to resolve the existing bottleneck caused by network equipment in low quality via this network expansion to realize the goal of building a city-wide high-quality network." officials of Shanghai Mobile told C114.
At present, Shanghai has over 17,000 2G and 3G base stations (more than 11,000 units belong 2G) and over 99% voice connection rate and SMS connection rate.
According to a half-year expansion project, 30% of main equipment of 2G network will be replaced and updated. Shanghai Mobile will deploy 6000 WLAN hotspots based on 802.11n standard to support more than 150 megabits per second network access capability by the end of this year, and in 2013, the company will finish the construction of more than 90,000 AP hotspots.
