Morning DE:

Righties, who have never glimpsed a hard copy of the NY Times, universally chant (on cue) that the Times is a libreal rag. In reality, the Times is a rather staid newspaper appealing to an upper-class readership. It is sacrilege for a 'winger' to read the NY Times.

A quick glance at today's edition shows a nineteen page news section (which may contain an opinion piece or two), a two-page editorial section, a nine-page business section, four pages of sports, nineteen pages of performing arts, and seven pages of fine arts. Yet, know-nothings will drag a Paul Krugman (The Times most prominent liberal) piece from the editoral section, then rant that the Times is a Commie, Pinko, Socialist, Islamofascist Liberal Fishwrap.

re: "Why do some folks believe the NYT editorial pages are the NYT newspaper?"

Care to elaborate on that?
