I'm writing this on a phone, so I'm not sure how far I'll get before my fingers give out...
I've been wondering since 2002 what would follow the current financial system of dollar-foundational-pure-fiat arbitraged currencies held together with bailing wire and chewing gum (computers and derivatives). I conjectured back then that although most believed the dollar had stood strong for hundreds of years, that was an illusion. That, in fact, during that time the ENGINE of capitalism had failed and been "hot swapped", repeatedly, keeping only the green paper wrapping paper to foster a BELIEF in continuity.
According to a paper I scrabbled together at that time, the current system was only as old as the 1984 Plaza Accord and, based on longevitt of prevous financial engines, was getting very long in the tooth ... Overdue to fail.
What would replace it? I wondered. Going back to some sort of asset backing would be the
gold and farmland were the best place to store wealth but that when
I have come to realize that men are not born to be free. Liberty is a need felt by a small class of people whom nature has endowed with nobler minds than the mass of men. -Napoleon
