Decomp,

I would NOT vote for a republican. They don't need more "dead wood" added to their fire.
I might NOT vote for a "president", many other democrats might do the same. After all, Obama has behaved more like a republican, caving to most of their demands. He has taken his base for granted, at his peril at this point.
I was FURIOUS when he extended the Bush tax cuts in December, FURIOUS! And once again, this piece of garbage doesn't have a "balanced approach".
I think a republican president would have thrown us a bone, just to look fair...

I was having dinner Saturday night with my 2 sisters & their husbands. All were Hillary supporters & all voted for Obama.
NONE of us are happy with Obama's "leadership".
The only family member still supporting him, my mom. She called me last night after Obama made his pronouncement, all excited.
I had missed it, but retorted, he sold us out AGAIN.
She said she'd talk to me tomorrow, since that wasn't what she wanted to hear.

As for the House, Nancy will have trouble getting Progressives & the Black Caucus votes.
I'm certain she is NOT pleased having to carry Obama's water, AGAIN!
Democrats will put Country above their anger & help Boehner get this passed.
Most of his tea baggers will be able to look "pure" & NOT vote for it, because of the Democrats help....
It's VERY depressing. clo

clo,

re: "Good luck with your reelection Mr President"

(1) The election is already lost. A serious economic downturn is underway.

That said, your *new* reasoning mystifies me. (Until now, you've been predicting Obummer will win.) Do you really think any die-hard Democrats are going to vote Republican because of a debt-ceiling deal that was struck a year and half earlier? Please. Are YOU going to vote Republican now, clo?

(2) It should be obvous to everyone that this compromise was what Obummer wanted. I'm not seeing the details yet, but:

"If the measure passes an expected Republican filibuster attempt, the House could vote on it Monday night, the aide said."

In other words, Democrats will vote for this. My guess is that the House will *NOT*. My suspicion is that the deal raises the debt ceiling by over $2 Trillion - thereby getting Obummer past the 2012 election and ensuring that madcap spending continues unabated for a long time to come.

If that's the case, I think that House Republicans ought to vote it down. Let's see if they take the easy route out of this mess or do what's best for the country. (Relax. I'm sure it will be the former.)
