We woke-up to RAIN this morning, and not just a mist, but big drops and we had to use our wipers on the way to Church. It's stopped for now but it looks like it could start-up again any time.
My trip to Vancouver was good. The conference was very interesting and I to see a lot of old friends in the industry and from various universities that we work with. Of particular interest to me was that many of the 56 universities who are part of this organization, they participated in a design competition where 7 teams were formed bringing together schools from around the globe. They've been working for nearly a year to research, design and engineer of proposed new urban transport vehicle aimed at large metropolitan areas. The team my alma mater was part of consisted of 4 teams, 2 from schools in India, one from Mexico and of course Mich Tech. Anyway of 5 categories that they were judged in, they came in 1st in three of them and 2nd in two. It was great to see the students give their presentations and to answer the questions asked by the judges (I was NOT a judge) and then at the awards banquet last night to have them get their awards and for their faculty advisors to get their recognition as well.
Also the weather was great, sunny but not too hot. The University of British Columbia, who was hosting the conference, is on a sort of peninsula which is right on the ocean and the breeze coming in from there was very pleasant. We did a lot of walking as the guest housing was about 1.5 miles from the building the events were held in and while there was a campus shuttle, most of us walked the round trip. As I said it's big campus with over 40,000 students.
BTW, next year the forum will be held in Shanghai, hosted by a pair of universities there.
