I think this will turn out to be a useful debacle. The Tea Party is exposed as reckless. The Republican Party is exposed as having pushed to the extreme right. If the Constitution defines one thing, it is that powers are separated. So the fact that the House is trying to ram its own legislation through Congress tells you the level of constitutional respect in play. Not much.
The definition of liberal has been pushed far to the right of centre these days. What is now called conservatism really doesn't resemble its original incarnation: it's a libertarian dogma, which is exactly what traditional conservatism, which is accepting of gradual accretion, rejects. No genuine conservative would permit a default. This is the lollypop-headed Limbaugh Right on the loose.
The US owes its creditors money. It's going to have to make its payments. That's just the way it is. The lever fails because defaulting harms everyone, including Republican'ts.
