Walsh, "And as your Congressman I promise you that I am going to put my head down, get back to work and continue to fight for our freedoms and our children’s future. I’m not going to let some hit piece in the media deter me from that," he pledged.

Meanwhile, one of the Democrat's running for the seat in the 8th District Walsh currently occupies said the story reveals he's a hypocrite.

"I think he should pay his child support right now," said Democratic candidate Raja Krishnamoorthi in an interview with POLITICO in Washington Thursday.

"To avoid those obligations really calls into question one's priorities. This individual has been going around preaching to the rest of our country about fiscal discipline and family values and making sure that we do the right thing. I think it's the height of hypocrisy to say all that and do what he's been doing in his private life," he said.

Later in the day, Krishnamoorthi dubbed Walsh a "dead beat Dad," called on him to resign and launched a petition aimed at amping up the pressure and organizing support for his own political purposes.

Catholics United also put out word to its supporters and is organizing a protest outside of Walsh's Fox Lake office on Saturday.

Walsh's ex seeking $117K in child support

Tough-talking Illinois freshman Joe Walsh owes $117,437 in child support, according to court documents filed by his ex-wife.

The congressman's attorney called that number "unfounded," but didn't dispute his client is behind on payments.

The Chicago Sun-Times breaks the story:

Walsh admits he is not wealthy. Some of his financial problems — including losing his Evanston condo to foreclosure — were documented before his out-of-nowhere victory in Chicago’s north suburbs last fall.

But court documents examined this week by the Sun-Times during research for a profile on the increasingly visible congressman showed his financial issues also included

a nine-years-long child support battle with his ex-wife, Laura Walsh.

Before getting elected, he had told Laura Walsh that because he was out of work or between jobs, he could not make child support payments.

So she was surprised to read in his congressional campaign disclosures that he was earning enough money to loan his campaign $35,000.

“Joe personally loaned his campaign $35,000, which, given that he failed to make any child support payments to Laura because he ‘had no money’ is surprising,” Laura Walsh’s attorneys wrote in a motion filed in December seeking $117,437 in back child support and interest. “Joe has paid himself back at least $14,200 for the loans he gave himself.”
