There are comments flying around by legal scholars who claim that Obama may face possible impeachment no matter what happens next.
Some experts are saying that in light of the debt clause in the 14th Amendment, that if the country defaults on it's debts and the President does nothing, he could be impeached since the Constitution appears to contain a provision to avoid just such a situation and so he's obligated to act. Not doing so could be construed as having failed to fulfill his pledge to defend the Constitution.
However at the same time, other scholars claim that since the House has already defeated a clean bill which would have raised the debt ceiling without any other consequences that if Obama does order the Treasury to continue 'paying the bills' that he could be impeached for ignoring the 'Will of Congress'.
The ideologues have sure screwed-up this country...
