http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/elections/election_2012/election_2012_presidential_election/obama_41_ron_paul_37

excerpt: "Congressman Ron Paul may be a long shot to win the Republican presidential nomination, but he runs competitively with President Obama right now...The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of Likely Voters shows Paul picking up 37% of the vote, while the president earns 41%.
...
In reviewing the data, please note that Romney benefits from being perceived as the frontrunner. In 2004, the last time an incumbent president stood for reelection, Vermont Governor Howard Dean was the early Democratic frontrunner... once Kerry became the frontrunner in early 2008, his numbers became as good as Dean’s. "

Fizzy comment: Other Republicans also are t-h-e-o-r-e-t-i-c-a-l-l-y within closing distance right now but Ron Paul is a shock and the ONLY candidate who could intellectually and morally rebut Obama. Romney is the bankster/fascist choice for Republican nomination, as shown by his donors, but he would only be a continuation of the big con ... and I question whether he could actually beat Obama ... I wouldn't vote for him, even with Obama as the opposition.

More importantly, Ron Paul is the only candidate who might actually lead a rebirth of the nation on a solid moral and economic foundation; the rest -- including Obama -- are "MiniMe" versions of Bushwacker.

BTW, I want to point out to doubters -- specifically Clo -- that Rasmussen has repeatedly shown itself as the MOST reliable poll out there. While some ding-dong pollster had Rand Paul LOSING to the Democratic shyster opponent in that Senate race, Rasmussen correctly identified Paul as the leader.

This is BIG news!! If Paul does well in the Iowa Straw Poll it will make the Wall Street Banksters and other Fascists quake in their boots.
