fizzy,

Walker says.

For instance, the concept of 'Cut, Cap and Balance' makes sense, "but numbers they're using don't make sense," he says.

I watched & I am opposed.
If this were to be enacted, starting Oct. the first year 800,000 more would be unemployed.

We have fought 2 wars, enacted Medicare D & sucked the rest by giving out GWB tax cuts!
Now they want to make draconian cuts in programs for the elderly & poor. Seniors have been paying into the system all of their lives, they can't change the rules now.

I don't trust most politicians & hardly any of the republicans.
Republicans only "cure" is to "cut taxes", this is totally ridiculous given the circumstances.

Raise the capital gains tax to 50%.
Did you read the article I posted yesterday? Billionaires made 50% more LAST YEAR while millions are losing their jobs & health insurance & homes.
Yet Congress wants the middle class to carry more of the burdeon.
It infuriates me....

fizzy, there is a small town in Rhode Island on the brink of bankruptcy. They are asking retired firemen, police & other state workers to take a 50% cut in their pensions.
I think this will be a problem for many "towns" nationwide.

Lets end pensions & covering the health care of our politicians. Since we can't get term limits, that should curb their desire to stay in Washington forever...

And raise the damn debt ceiling, if we don't our debt will cost us much more in interest & ruin our credit. They already commited to paying these debts, we are not a dead beat nation.

If I seem cranky, they say it hit 115 here with the heat index. clo

I am sincerely looking for your input, because I honestly don't understand the resistance from Obama-Reid-Et.Al. But I want you to watch this FIRST and use your own arguments instead of possibly just rehashing something you may have read somewhere else.

It seems inevitable to me -- as certain as the sun coming up in the morning -- that the US will not be able to continue deficit spending forever. It is just math, history, and commonsense (actually any one should do almost by itself, but it helps that they all come to the same conclusion).

So what possible motivation would the mainstream Dems have for NOT agreeing to LET THE STATES VOTE ON THIS -- WHICH WOULD RAISE THE DEBT CEILING NOW AND ALLOW THE DEFICIT SPENDING TO GO ON, IF NECESSARY, FOR ANOTHER 6 YEARS???

Even for socialists, trying to deficit spend into perpetuity doesn't make any sense I can think of. Your cogent thoughts, please?

Here is something pertinent, perhaps, from David Walker (hopefully we can both respect him for his past efforts):

"Unfortunately, political ideology is preventing some in Congress from being "realistic about what needs to be done now and what ultimately has to be done over time," Walker says.

For instance, the concept of 'Cut, Cap and Balance' makes sense, "but numbers they're using don't make sense," he says.
